This was the big weekend. This was XGames weekend in lovely Aspen, Colorado. Living just 3 hours away from Buttermilk Mountain, I have the luxury of scooting over to XGames for a while, even if I have to be back in town to take my kid to school in the morning. This year I did just that for Thursday night’s events, then I got to go back for the rest of the weekend with my hubby. It was a great time, even if we didn’t stay for the night events on Saturday or Sunday… 🙂 It was cold and I was lacking in cool-guy wool socks. I will have to invest in some this year. I am in the process of processing my images, so here are a few to whet your appetite.

I made it down to Ouray this weekend for a bit of the annual Ice Fest. When my oldest munchkin and I arrived Sunday morning for the speed competition the weather could not have been better, save a couple of upward degrees. It was overcast, calm, and only a little chilly. Perfect weather for ice climbing, and more importantly, perfect for pictures. We walked across the bridge over the canyon and all the way around the top of the climbing area taking a few photos and bidding good morning to some climbers on our way around.
We got to the parking lot at the far end and turned around just before the wind hit and the snow blew in. It was instant. I’m not even joking. Nothing, a few flurries, then Bam! Two-inch-an-hour blizzard! We left just before the competition started due to my lack of weather protection for my camera and also the munchkin getting quite unhappy about the violently blowing snow in her face.
Needless to say, I didn’t get terribly many pictures this year at Ice Fest. However, I got a few good shots, and as a bonus I got to try out my new monopod (It’s a Sunpak, just a $25 cheapy stick, but I absolutely love it!).
A couple of weeks ago we had the first major storm of the year here in Montrose. We got about a foot of snow, depending on where you were. It was gorgeous! I was moving that day, so I didn’t get a ton of pictures taken. I did get several that I really like. Now that we are all moved I should hopefully be getting back on top of this blogging thing. I have more pictures from the past couple of months that I need to post on here, so those should be coming up soon.
For now, here’s the storm! Enjoy!
As good of a day as Saturday was, Sunday may have even been a little better! Maybe it was just that the lighting was better, maybe it was the fact that my toes stayed a little warmer (hand warmers literally rocked my socks!). Sunday afternoon featured SnoCross and Adaptive SnoCross, and Men’s and Women’s SlopeStyle Skiing. It was an amazing last day at the 2013 Aspen Winter X Games. Here is how Sunday went at Aspen X.
What a weekend it was!
Saturday and Sunday I got to hang out at the Aspen Winter XGames with my husband. I spent all day taking pictures and it was an amazing time. Saturday was filled with Snowmobile Speed & Style and Snowboard SlopeStyle. Sunday was all about SnoCross and ski SlopeStyle. (We cut out before the night events on both days). Here are the highlights from Saturday’s events.
Be prepared for part 2 tomorrow – Sunday’s fun!
Ah, winter! That lovely time of year when most of us here in Colorado sit inside and wait for warm weather to come around again. However, it is a wonderful time for pictures. I’m especially liking black and white at the moment – so here you go!
