Motorcycle Trips and PhotoStudio 6

A couple of weekends ago I took a trip to the wonderful (and luckily close-by) Ouray, Colorado with my husband on our big, loud Yamaha RoadStar cruiser. We spent the night at the Box Canyon Lodge, which is an amazing place to stay if you ever get the chance. They have fabulous rooms, spring-fed hot tubs, amazing views, and since it is in Ouray it is within walking distance of everything. On Sunday we drove over Red Mountain Pass to the town of Silverton for lunch. Before we stopped we drove up Molas Pass a little way and found a caravan of Ford test vehicles at the overlook. Including a future model Mustang. It Was Gorgeous.

A few days ago I finally bought the editing software that I downloaded a trial of a long time ago and really liked. ArcSoft PhotoStudio6. It’s simple to use, feature-rich, and works wonderfully. It has HDR and RAW editing features, great enhancement ability and pretty much every other feature I could ask for. I only have two minor complaints: the first would be that you can’t reorder layers, they are stacked on the front as you make them, the second is that there are no fancy presets for HDR editing. The sliders work well, but some ‘artistic’ presets would be a nice addition. I’m more than happy that I finally decided to actually buy it.

Here are the results of the two combined – the trip and the software.

Spring is Here!

It is finally that time of year! The snow is gone from the valley, we’ve had multiple days in the 60’s, and everything is coming into life and leaf. That’s right, we have spring here in our little corner of the world.

Owl Creek Pass

A couple of weeks ago (I’ve been terribly slow about uploading these) I went for a little drive with the family. We went to a place that I had been wanting to get to pretty much since we moved to Colorado – Owl Creek Pass and Silver Jack Reservoir. It’s not very far from town, I had just never made it there. I’m very glad that we went! It was a great day out and about, the weather was perfect, the pictures I got were great, And it was an adventure!

Mountain Views and Deer at Sunrise

Sunday morning was as Perfect as I’ve had in a long time. It started out at about 5:30am (which, for me, is not a good time of morning to wake up..), with myself preparing to go on a sunrise/foliage outing with some other local photographers. I guess I was the only one that remembered, since I sat alone in the dark, waiting. I was discouraged. I almost went back home and went to bed. I drove to Ridgway instead. That was an excellent decision. I sat at one of my favorite overlooks and I watched the sunrise reflect off of the mountains. It was silent. It was gorgeous – You missed out. Luckily for you, I also photographed it! 🙂 On the way back home I found several herds of Mule Deer. Of course, I stopped to take pictures of those, too.

I hope you enjoy my morning even a fraction as much as I did.

Mountain Views

Finally! I have been waiting for about 2 weeks now to be in the right place at the right time with the right lighting. This is a view of the San Juan mountains from above my in-laws’ house.

It was a wonderful evening for pictures 🙂

A Day With Clouds

After the little munchkin and I picked the big munchkin up from school we grabbed some lunch and headed out to Peach Valley to burn off some energy. Today found itself to be sunny and perfectly touched by clouds.

Grand Mesa on the Bike

Today the Hubby and I went out for another little adventure on the RoadStar. We headed to the Grand Mesa, another of the fairly local really cool places that I had never been before. It’s really nice up there and being on the bike was all the better – sun streaming down, cool mountain air wisping up under your helmet, and a full view of all the amazing surrounding that you pass – you really can’t beat it.

The only downside of the day was after we got home and I was looking through all the pictures (I took about 150 today). I realized that the image stabilizer switch on my lens had been off the entire time… so some of the pictures didn’t come out as clear as they otherwise would have been. All in all, I still got some pictures that I think turned out really well.
